d13f00l, this sounds like a KDE bug.

j-m, I'm not clear why you feel that this is a regression. Forcing all mode names to be unique is considered to be a feature. Now, you can always easily determine which mode you're using, rather than being unsure whether 1280x1024 is the modeline in your X configuration, from the X server's internal mode pool, or from the EDID.

Thanks,
Lonni

hello

Got the same problem.
I've just switch from 7167 nvidia drivers for linux to the last 8756, and my IIyama 22' at 1280x1024 stuck at 75 hz (damn it's hard to stand for my eyes).

I do not have this trouble with 7167 version of linux drivers.Refresh rate is set automaticaly at 85hz wich is great for my monitor, without any tweak or modeline in XF86Config-4 file.

I've tried to add modeline in Monitor section of XF86Config-4, but still the same (75 hz) refresh rate.

Who got THE solution ? Heeelpp

Except this problem, The performance are great !! ~ 8628 fps with glxgear with 7167 to more than 12000 with the last 8756...that i can't run with 75 hz refresh rate.

Best.

For anyone else in this thread with this problem, please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5
and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

Well, if something works and suddenly stops working, it's usually called regression. 1152x864 is a perfectly valid mode name and thus should be honored. It is honored by previous versions of nVidia drivers, it is honored by nv opensource driver and by any other driver I tried. This change breaks valid configurations and has already caused a bunch of bug reports here, expect more to come. At least please document this issue in Changelog/README.

OK, I did that and I attached the bug log to this message.

Let me know if there's anything else I should try.

P.S.: This screen flicked issue is very annoying. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Thumbs up Re: Vertical Refresh with 1.0-8756

Hello

I was roaming the forum about this problem with the last Linux Nvidia Drivers, i i've follow the link and tips given by Zander on j-m's post here :

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...81&postcount=6

So i have : launch xvidtune (with my old drivers that make no trouble for 1280x1024@85 hz refresh rate) get the modeline by clicking the SHOW button.
Then i've added this modeline in the MONITOR section of my XF86Config-4 (debian sarge)
Modeline "1280x1024_85" 157.50 1280 1344 1504 1728 1024 102
5 1028 1072 +hsync +vsync

then add the tips from Zander in my DEVICE section of XF86Config-4 :

Option "UseEdidFreqs" "FALSE"
Option "UseEDID" "FALSE"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"

then, cut my X with my old 7167 drivers. Go root,
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg1.run

Perfect installation.

startx, and at last !!!!

xrandr
SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
*0 1280 x 1024 ( 433mm x 347mm ) *85

glxgears
61764 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12352.800 FPS
57843 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11568.600 FPS
62590 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12518.000 FPS
62831 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12566.200 FPS
62609 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12521.800 FPS
62775 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12555.000 FPS

With IIyama Vision Master Pro 510 22'' / GeForce 6800 GT 1280x1024@85hz

my old driver (7167) gave me ~ 8600 fps with glxgear, Quake4 and UT2K4 runs GREAT

Hope that help someone.
i go fragging Thank you NVIDIA

Best

According to nVidia's Readme:

Quote:
<width>x<height>_<refreshrate>

(e.g., "1600x1200_85")
i can run any resolution with vsync desired by me. Unfortunately all vsync values n > 85 are rejected :/ Well i tried to add my own modeline also, but on some certain resolutions i had difficulties with display area size, i just cant fit it to the my monitor's screen size

well i dont know exactly what was causing my issue, but with the old driver i could use 1280x1024 fine, but with this driver i started up x and the screen went blank and my monitor flashed up "out of range"

so a "Ctrl Alt +" changed the resolution down a step and it came back on and i could at least see what i was doing, i think it was trying to run 1280x1024 at 85hz and my moitor couldn't handle it, so i just added...

1280x1024_75

to my xorg.conf and hey presto, i got my 1280x1024 back!

cheers guys

florin,
Requesting a 1024x768_85 mode in the screen section of your X configuration should provide 1024x768@85Hz.

TPG,
According to your bug report, X is running 1600x1200@85Hz. The EDID in your CRT doesn't list any refresh rates greater than 85Hz.

Thanks,
Lonni

Hello

@Netllama
I have to say that when i tried to figure out what's append with my 85hz frequency at 1280x1024, i startx - --logverbose 5, and check the log file.

thus the Edid infos doesn't list 1280x1024@85 as a possible one (it give uper resolutions @ 80 hz i dont remeber excatly) i've alway use it without any modeline with older nvidia drivers. My monitor is able to do it (at upper resolution also)

it's the first time i had to put modeline in XF86Config-4 and those options told in my post above.

Sorry for my bad english.

Best.

Is there any workaround to get vsync greater than 85?
i wonder why EDID in my CRT allows to use only vsaync n < 85? I should have bought cheaper CTR :P

TPG,
According to the EDID, your CRT isn't capable of a refresh rate above 85Hz. Do you have information that suggests otherwise?

Thanks,
Lonni
