Default flicker problem

here i go again, haven't had any answer or anything about this, so here's a new thread.

Nvidia drivers (6629 too) make X flicker at random times and even cause the screen to go blank for some seconds, when i run something GL related.

i am now running Fedora core 3 (kernel 2.6.9 SMP)
CPU: Pentium 4 3.0Ghz 1mb cache (HT)

I have twinview enabled:

card: MSI Geforce FX 5600 128mb ram (agp 8x)
VBIOS Version: 04.31.20.40.00

DVI: Dell P1130 21" (1600x1200@85hz)
analog: Philips 107E 17" (1024x768@85hz)

MOBO: MSI 865PE Neo2-V

that's it.

I am also attaching my xorg conf.

PS. experiencing same problems in windows with tha latest drivers. downgraded to 5336 to avoid problem.

File Type: txt xorg.conf.txt (3.2 KB, 174 views)

Perhaps you should look at system stability instead. The newer drivers probably stress the system more and cause the flickering due to a maybe unstable system.

i don't think that it is a matter of system stability.
lots of people are experiencing the same problem with new drivers

You were trying to give a link to another thread?
But it just seems unlikeliy that nvidia introduced some new flicker bug in both the windows and linux drivers at the same time.

Well, that thread I'm perfectly aware of, since I had the same problem myself. However it gots fixed for me in the latest driver. But it was only a problem in linux and not in windows.

I'll post them when I get back home..

However I've noticed with the old drivers that if I attached a second screen there was no flickering. Even if it was not setup up for twinview.

i was forced to change the resolution on my 1st monitor from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024 and no flickering then...

GL screen savers seem fine, no flickering at all, doom3 is nice (with a big performance gain with the new drivers ).

Yet ut2004 flickers

I really do not know what is happening, and since i have had ::NO:: response at all, i am quite dissapointed.
