The card is clocked at 1 Ghz by default?, and they easily added and extra 125 Mhz without even needing a voltage bump?....That's 200Mhz extra over a stock clocked HD7970 card, wich is clocked at 925Mhz:

It's the kind of clock speeds that can't be done on a GTX580 without a voltage increase first of all, and not exactly recommended while still air cooled....

Well, 4 HD7970 cards are now officially ordered and the water blocks for them should start becoming available next week from the more known companies, so in the meantime i'll receive the cards and take off the air coolers to get them ready for the water blocks...

Well given the impressive scaling seen in BF3 on 4 cards, wich is the main game i play these days, i don't think so....As for other games you'd be absolutely correct as the scaling will vary a lot from one game to the next, but since i don't play them anyhow, it doesn't really affect me in any meaningfull way...

one thing to add...the stock cooler isn't too bad considering the difference in temps between the two...i guess it did have a big o/c on the gigabyte..but still...not bad stock cooler..i am expecting a lot less in temps from a customer cooler though..

In the overall scheme of things it isn't, but you can imagine the situation with 4 of them side by side in an enclosed case, i overclock them and put them under serious load when it's summertime and hot as hell to begin with....

Hence the water cooling option i'll be using, and this is the system they'll be shoved into wich being a dual CPU setup with a pair of 6 core chips running at 4 Ghz, generate a decent amount of heat to begin with:

No pre cut thermal pads with those?

When you get your cards, can you do me a huge favor and measure the distance between the blocks at the fitting area? With single slot spacing.

Nope they have two pads grey thick one goes on memory etc, and a pink one goes on the outer sides etc.
