Unless 580's drop $100 because of this then 7970 all the way. I'm impressed enough and will be buying one come jan. Newer drivers will make it even better I'm sure.

Moving past 1GB frame buffer will be very beneficial, but 2x6870's is a very powerful setup as long as you don't hit those VRAM limits.
For me it's a no-brainer over the 5870 that has served me well for 2 years. I'm sure a 7970 will do the same.

I don't see this as disappointing at all. It beats the 580 handily, all while remaining cooler, lower noise levels, and lower power consumption. The only exemption is noise under load for Metro 2033. It's about 4db louder is that test only. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5261/a...7970-review/24 I'm curious as to how well the new architecture will behave with the drivers.

I was hoping for much more and I'm kind of disapointed! I understand that its a new architecture and it might need a couple driver revisions but I'll wait a few months to see what nvidia has to offer.

Wow, the Crossfire performance is rather insane. The min fps in bf3 is the same as the 580 sli avg fps...

You know, I just thought of something...
Windows 8 is just around the corner. I'm not under the impression the next version of DX will be released with it but you've got to think it isn't to far away. I wonder when exactly it will be out? I'm asking because I would hate to spend a bunch of money on this card, or Nvidia's Keplar, and it be rendered obsolete by a new DX release shortly after the purchase since the cards wouldn't be designed for DX 12 or whatever it will be. Then again, if DX12 were to come out it will be out towards the end of 2012. Taking into account it will be at least a year later until a game comes out to properly take advantage of it, maybe this isn't such a huge deal as that is basically two years. I was kicking around getting one of these cards, or perhaps wait for Keplar, to replace my GTX580. But now that I think about, I think I'll wait. After all, BF3 is really the only game I play and my 580 plays the game fine with everything maxed out. I'm not even overclocking or anything and it still runs fine. So why bother?
