the G400Max absolutely rocked. I wanted it over a tnt2U or a v3-3500 easily. Then the GF came... then it was over.

The G400Max was not bad in D3D at all. Matrox had some competitive cards back in the day. Note the use of the word competitive. I would hardly say they really ever had the 3d crown, but they came close.

Matrox pretty much "exited" when Parhelia results started becoming available--whether they liked it or not. (Which sucked, really, as I thought the card was cool and would have liked to see another player at the high end.) I'm not sure afterwards if anyone expected them to make a stab again afterwards.

I'm just hoping I'm not "Parhelizing" all over again thinking about XGI's upcoming chip suite, and DeltaChrome to follow. I'm a big fan of excitement and competition, so I'm hoping these cards are up to snuff! They're certainly releasing them the right way (many products covering many price and performance levels so as to not bet the farm on one tier), and on performance we'll just have to judge when they materialize.

...and if PowerVR shows up soon with Series 5? Manoman, SOME fun!

aaahhh.. I still remember Fondly the early days of the Matrox M3D.

They should have continued to partner with powerVR for 3d Graphics. They would still be ok today of they had.

Ahh yes, the M3d 4MB Card.......lets you play Quake at 24FPS in 32-bit color at 1024x768! Considering it doesn't have a pass-through, and just uses the PCI bus to transfer data, it was pretty ingenious.

Actually the G400 had the most vivid and vibrant colors of any of the cards at the time: Voodoo, Geforce. 2D image quality has yet to be surpassed (maybe equaled now). Unfortunately in 3D, they were somewhat slow, had no anisotrophy, and suffered from bad moiring. They are still my choice for internet/e-mail rigs.

Matrox g200 is the worst card ive ever come across, it worked if you begged it, it couldn't handle the quake 2 engine (none textured polys etc), their support was simply awful, i once quizzed them on why sof2 had no textures and their response was that they needed to look at my card for which they were gonna charge me an ungodly amount.. The only thing in its league of crapness was the intel i740 which was an onboard chip..

Ever since i went to Nvidia and now ATi i havent had a problem of this caliber
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 @ 3.42GHz | Abit IP35 Pro | GeIL 4GB DDR2
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB 770/1920/1070
Creative Audigy 2ZS on Logitech Z-680s
Yuraku 24" Widescreen monitor

It saddens me that I need the following to post here:
