COUNTER-STIRKE: SOURCE PERFORMANCE
The Counter-Strike: Source video stress provides a benchmark scenario which utilizes a version of the Source Engine that hasn't been subjected to any image enhancing modifications such as those found in the Half-Life 2: Lost Coast demonstration.
Counter-Strike: Source Settings
Note that while there is a High Dynamic Range setting, its value was not found to affect the results in any manner.
Counter-Strike: Source Performance Test - 1024x768
The performance of both cards in this test is truly astounding. The 8500 GT is just below 100 fps with 4x antialiasing and 8x anisotropic filtering, with the 8600 GT OC doubling the performance of its sibling once again.
Counter-Strike: Source Performance Test - 1280x1024
Both cards suffer a noticeable dip in performance once antialiasing is enabled, however increasing the settings once again didn't take as much of a toll.
Counter-Strike: Source Performance Test - 1600x1200
The added performance of the 8600 GT OC allows this resolution to still be very playable.
